Trenton, New Jersey – Heavy snow could overspread New Jersey as early as Sunday morning, with more than 6 inches possible before the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon for much of central, northern, northwest, and southern New Jersey. Snow totals exceeding 6 inches are possible statewide, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Travel could become very difficult.
Major highways including the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, Interstate 80, and Interstate 295 could see snow-covered lanes and drifting by late Sunday night into early Monday. Shore communities from Long Beach Island to Atlantic City and Cape May may experience additional visibility reductions due to gusty onshore winds.
Residents should prepare vehicles and adjust travel plans before Sunday morning. NJDOT crews are expected to pretreat primary routes ahead of the storm’s arrival.
Snow may persist into Monday afternoon before tapering west to east, with lingering slick road conditions during the evening commute. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon as forecasters refine snowfall projections.
