Trenton, NJ – Wind gusts up to 50 mph are whipping snow into near-whiteout conditions across New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, forcing officials to urge emergency travel only until 6 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. for central and northern New Jersey, including Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Burlington counties, as well as Philadelphia and surrounding southeast Pennsylvania suburbs. Delaware’s New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties and Maryland’s Caroline, Talbot and Queen Anne’s counties are also under the warning.

Additional snowfall ranges from 4 to 6 inches across parts of Monmouth and Ocean counties, with 3 to 5 inches expected in Atlantic and Cape May counties. Northern New Jersey, including Sussex, Warren and Morris counties, could see 4 to 6 inches. Wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph are creating widespread blowing snow and sharply reduced visibility on the Garden State Parkway, I-95, I-295 and the Atlantic City Expressway.

In Philadelphia, Camden and Cherry Hill, drifting snow may re-cover treated roads during both the morning and evening commutes. Along the Jersey Shore, including Long Beach Island and Sandy Hook, powerful crosswinds could down tree limbs and scatter debris.

Officials urge residents to restrict travel to emergencies and check 511 for road updates. Blizzard conditions are expected to persist until 6 p.m., with additional advisories possible if winds remain strong into tonight.
