Philadelphia, PA – Strong winds are set to sweep across the Mid-Atlantic region late Thursday night into Friday, with gusts reaching 40-45 mph in parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Higher gusts are expected in elevated areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly.
According to the NWS, the system will bring some rain Thursday before exiting, leaving behind gusty conditions that could impact travel and outdoor activities. Cities including Philadelphia, Trenton, Atlantic City, and Wilmington will experience significant wind gusts, with Mount Pocono potentially seeing the strongest winds between 50-55 mph.
Officials urge residents to secure outdoor objects and be cautious of tree limbs or power lines that could be affected by the strong winds. Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution on highways and bridges.
Temperatures on Wednesday will remain above normal for much of the region, with highs reaching the upper 60s in Philadelphia and Allentown. However, cooler marine air will keep coastal areas like Long Branch and Cape May in the low to mid-50s.
The NWS advises residents to stay updated on forecasts and be prepared for potentially hazardous wind conditions overnight Thursday into early Friday.
