Atlantic City, New Jersey – Shore communities could see roads disappear under blowing snow by midafternoon as a blizzard drops up to 24 inches and sends wind gusts to 60 mph through 6 p.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday for Atlantic, Cape May and coastal Atlantic counties. Snow will intensify late today, with the heaviest bands developing tonight. Forecasters say snowfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour, while powerful winds create near-zero visibility and significant drifting.
Major routes including the Atlantic City Expressway, Garden State Parkway, Route 30 and Route 47 may become impassable, especially on bridges and exposed coastal stretches near Ocean City and Cape May Court House. Some mixed precipitation is possible this evening before a change to all snow, increasing the risk of icy layers beneath fresh accumulation. Conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly before the Monday morning commute and remain hazardous into the evening drive.
Wind gusts up to 60 mph could damage trees and power lines, leading to scattered outages across Atlantic City, Hammonton and barrier island communities. Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel, secure outdoor items and prepare for extended outages. Check road conditions by dialing 511.
Snow will taper during the day Monday, but blowing snow may continue to reduce visibility into Monday night. Additional advisories may follow as the storm exits.
