Mount Holly, New Jersey – Roads across northwest New Jersey and the Pocono region could turn icy by 7 p.m. tonight, setting up a slick and potentially hazardous Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday for Sussex County in New Jersey and Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania. Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow and sleet, along with around two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulation.

Communities including Newton, Jim Thorpe and Stroudsburg are likely to see freezing rain overnight. Even minor ice buildup can coat untreated roads, bridges and overpasses, especially along Route 15, I-80 and PA Route 33. The heaviest icing is expected between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., directly impacting the early Friday commute.

Utility crews are monitoring for isolated outages where ice weighs down tree limbs and power lines. Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check 511 for the latest road conditions before heading out.

The advisory expires at noon Friday, but additional updates could follow if icing lingers into the afternoon.
