Mount Holly, New Jersey – A developing winter storm could significantly impact travel across New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania beginning Friday afternoon, with the most dangerous conditions expected during the Friday evening commute and overnight into Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for much of New Jersey and large portions of eastern Pennsylvania. Snow is expected to overspread the region Friday afternoon, with totals ranging from 2 to 5 inches across southern New Jersey, the Philadelphia metro area, and parts of Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton counties. Farther north, including Sussex, Morris, Somerset, Warren, and Hunterdon counties, snowfall totals could reach 5 to 7 inches.
In addition to snow, areas across southeastern and east-central Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, Montgomery County, Bucks County, and the Lehigh Valley, may also see a mix of sleet and freezing rain. Light ice accumulation is possible, which could further worsen road conditions and increase the risk for accidents.
Communities such as Camden, Cherry Hill, Mount Holly, Trenton, New Brunswick, Allentown, Reading, Norristown, and Doylestown are all within the watch area. Slippery roads are expected to develop quickly Friday evening, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.
Residents are urged to monitor updates closely as confidence in snowfall and ice amounts improves. Travel should be delayed if possible Friday night, and anyone who must be on the roads should allow extra time and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Watches remain in effect through Saturday morning, and advisories or warnings may be issued as the storm approaches.
