Mount Holly, NJ – A tornado watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. EDT Tuesday for portions of New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, and northern Delaware, with millions of residents urged to stay alert for rapidly changing weather conditions this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Tornado Watch 507 continues for 16 New Jersey counties, 10 Pennsylvania counties, and New Castle County, Delaware. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. It does not mean a tornado has been confirmed.
The watch includes major population centers such as Philadelphia, Trenton, Camden, Cherry Hill, Atlantic City, Toms River, New Brunswick, Morristown, Wilmington, Reading, Allentown, Bethlehem, West Chester, Norristown, Doylestown, and Easton.
New Jersey counties under the watch include Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren. In Pennsylvania, the watch covers Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, and Philadelphia counties. New Castle County is included in Delaware.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and be prepared to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building if a tornado warning is issued. Severe thunderstorms associated with the watch may also produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.
The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions throughout the evening and issue additional warnings if dangerous storms develop.
