New Jersey – A Red Flag Warning is in effect statewide today until 6 p.m., with critical fire weather conditions creating a significant wildfire risk. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation make fires likely to spread quickly and become difficult to control.
According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, Stage 3 Fire Restrictions are also in place statewide. This prohibits all open flames unless contained within elevated stoves fueled by propane, gas, or electricity. Charcoal fires are strictly banned under these restrictions.
Drivers along the Garden State Parkway and surrounding areas are advised to use extra caution, as any spark could ignite dry roadside vegetation. Local authorities encourage homeowners to clear brush and debris near structures and avoid outdoor activities that could generate sparks.
The National Weather Service predicts wind gusts of up to 25 mph and humidity levels dropping below 30% this afternoon, heightening fire concerns. As a precaution, residents should monitor local alerts and prepare evacuation plans in case of emergencies.
Looking ahead, calmer conditions are forecast starting Sunday, with a slight dip in temperatures and lighter winds expected through the week. However, rainfall remains limited, so fire risks may persist.
Residents are encouraged to report any smoke or flames to authorities immediately. For updates, visit the New Jersey Forest Fire Service website or follow local weather reports.
