Trenton, New Jersey – Rain and a potential rain-snow mix could impact New Jersey Feb. 18-22, with northern counties facing limited winter risk.

According to the National Weather Service 6-10 Day Outlook issued Thursday, Feb. 12, above-normal precipitation is favored across New Jersey during the Feb. 18-22 period. Most of the state, including Trenton, Camden and Atlantic City, is expected to see primarily rain.

Northern New Jersey, including Newark, Paterson and areas near the New York border, may see brief periods of snow or a rain and snow mix, especially during overnight or early morning hours if temperatures hover near freezing.

Localized sleet is possible in transition zones where warmer surface air interacts with colder air aloft. However, widespread accumulating snowfall is not currently projected across the state.

The broader weather pattern supports heavier snowfall potential across Minnesota and Wisconsin, while mixed precipitation extends across parts of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and upstate New York before reaching portions of the Northeast.

Temperatures are forecast to trend near to slightly above normal across much of the Mid-Atlantic, increasing the likelihood of rain as the dominant precipitation type across central and southern New Jersey.

For commuters and students returning after President’s Day week, steady rainfall and brief wintry mixing in northern counties could create slick travel conditions, particularly along Interstate 80, Interstate 78 and the Garden State Parkway.

The National Weather Service emphasizes that 6-10 day outlooks reflect probability trends rather than exact totals. Residents should monitor updated forecasts for refined rainfall timing and any potential mix scenarios.
