Trenton, New Jersey – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for portions of central and northern New Jersey and nearby Pennsylvania from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, with heavy snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
The watch includes Trenton and Mercer County, along with much of northern and central New Jersey, where snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches are possible. Additional areas across southern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania could see 4 to 6 inches of snow, with some locations also facing light ice accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon and intensify into the evening hours. Forecasters warn that the Friday evening commute could be significantly impacted as snowfall rates increase and road conditions deteriorate.
Travel may become very difficult, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and elevated surfaces. Reduced visibility and slick conditions could lead to delays across major roadways, including Interstate 295, Route 1, and surrounding commuter corridors serving the Trenton area.
While the storm is expected to taper off Saturday morning, lingering snow-covered roads could continue to affect travel early in the day. The National Weather Service emphasized that forecast details may change as the system approaches and that upgrades to warnings or advisories are possible.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and consider adjusting travel plans. Those who must travel are urged to drive with caution, allow extra time, and ensure vehicles are properly prepared for winter conditions.
A Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable for significant snowfall, but confidence in exact impacts is still developing. Additional updates are expected before the storm arrives.
