Pennsylvania — The cold cuts through layers this morning, rattling windows and stinging exposed skin across the Delaware Valley. Sidewalks crunch under frozen footsteps as one of February’s coldest air masses settles in.

An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect through midday, followed by a Cold Weather Advisory extending into Monday morning. Wind chills have plunged as low as 15 degrees below zero across southeastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey. In Philadelphia, temperatures hover near 9°F, but strong northwest winds push wind chills close to -13°F.

Morning travel comes with hazards. Gusts near 25 mph refreeze damp pavement on I-95, I-76, the Schuylkill Expressway, and major bridges. Shaded sidewalks, transit platforms, and parking decks remain slick. Plan extra time if heading out early, and keep gloves and face coverings handy.

Conditions slowly improve later today as winds ease. Highs struggle to reach the upper teens, keeping the cold firmly in control. Tonight turns clear and calmer, allowing temperatures to drop back into the single digits by daybreak.

Monday offers a small break. Sunshine returns with highs near the upper 20s, easing wind chill concerns. The pattern shifts again Tuesday as a warm front approaches. Clouds increase, and highs climb into the mid-30s. By Wednesday, temperatures rise further into the upper 30s, signaling a noticeable thaw.

Looking ahead, the broader 6–10 day outlook favors near to above-normal temperatures. February’s deep freeze loosens its grip, though winter still has a presence across the Mid-Atlantic.

For now, limit time outdoors, check on vulnerable neighbors, and protect pets from the cold. Meteorologists continue monitoring the transition ahead. How cold did it feel in your neighborhood this morning?
