Pennsylvania – The air feels raw and heavy across Philadelphia and South Jersey this morning as light freezing drizzle and fog linger over the region. Pavement glistens under faint streetlights while temperatures hover near 31°F, just cold enough for black ice to form on bridges, ramps, and side streets.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly issued a Special Weather Statement warning of patchy freezing drizzle that could make travel slippery through early morning hours. Even a light glaze can cause cars to lose traction on untreated surfaces. Motorists on I-95, Route 30, and I-76 should expect localized slick spots and reduced visibility where fog thickens.
By midday, skies slowly brighten as highs reach the lower 40s, but the ground may stay damp through late morning. Sunday and Monday bring calmer, mostly sunny conditions with highs in the low 40s and lows near 30°F — a break before a potential midweek rain-snow mix around Wednesday.
Meteorologists note that colder air is expected to return Dec. 11–17, a period that may usher in more frequent clipper systems and early holiday snow chances across the Great Lakes and Northeast. Drivers and commuters are encouraged to prepare for quick temperature drops and flash-freeze setups, common during early December transitions.
