Cape May, NJ – The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Gale Warning for Delaware Bay and the southern New Jersey and Delaware coastal waters, where strong west winds and hazardous seas are expected to create dangerous marine conditions through early Thursday.
The warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday, with west winds of 25 to 35 knots and gusts up to 45 knots expected. Wave heights could reach 8 feet in exposed areas from Cape May to Fenwick Island, while the Delaware Bay will experience extremely rough conditions throughout the afternoon and night.
Forecasters warn that these gale-force winds may capsize or damage vessels, particularly smaller craft, and reduce visibility due to spray and high seas. Mariners are strongly urged to remain in port, seek safe harbor, and secure equipment before conditions worsen.
The strongest winds are anticipated late Wednesday evening, gradually easing by Thursday morning as high pressure builds inland.
