Mount Holly, NJ – A series of marine advisories are in effect along the New Jersey coast, with hazardous conditions expected through Friday evening. Mariners are urged to take caution as dense fog, strong winds, and rough seas will impact navigation.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday, reducing visibility to one nautical mile or less. A Small Craft Advisory will remain active until 6 a.m. Friday, as south winds of 15 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots, are expected to create rough seas ranging from 4 to 7 feet.
A Gale Warning will take effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, bringing northwest winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts reaching 40 knots. Seas could swell between 5 and 8 feet, making conditions especially treacherous for small vessels.
The affected areas include coastal waters from Sandy Hook to Great Egg Inlet, extending 20 nautical miles offshore. The National Weather Service advises mariners to remain in port or seek safe harbor during these hazardous conditions. Those who must navigate should proceed with caution, ensure running lights are on, and utilize radar and compass navigation.
