Philadelphia, PA – Residents across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and northern Delaware should prepare for a potentially life-threatening heat wave beginning Monday morning, with heat index values soaring as high as 107°F and little overnight relief expected through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, an Extreme Heat Watch is in effect from Monday at 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. Wednesday for the Philadelphia metro, Wilmington, and much of central and northern New Jersey. The heat index could reach 106–107°F due to a combination of high humidity and triple-digit air temperatures.
Cities expected to bear the brunt include Philadelphia, Norristown, Reading, Trenton, Camden, and Morristown. In urban areas, overnight lows will linger near 80°F, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Emergency officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and use air conditioning if available. Those without access to cooling should locate nearby cooling centers or public libraries. Avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles, where temperatures can become deadly within minutes.
Heat alerts may be upgraded to warnings over the weekend. Check back for updates as this prolonged heat event approaches.
