Trenton, N.J. – Dangerously hot weather will blanket New Jersey, Delaware, and eastern Pennsylvania Friday, with heat index values soaring as high as 106°F by mid-afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday for counties across the region, including Sussex, Ocean, Hunterdon, Atlantic, and Burlington in New Jersey; Kent and Sussex in Delaware; and Chester, Lehigh, Berks, and Montgomery in Pennsylvania.
Daytime highs in the mid-90s, combined with tropical humidity, will push “feels-like” temperatures above 100°F across cities like Trenton, Allentown, Dover, and Reading. Shore towns like Atlantic City and Cape May may also feel the heat, with only limited relief from sea breezes.
Emergency officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activity during peak hours, hydrate frequently, and check in on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor workers should take frequent shaded breaks, and those without access to air conditioning are advised to seek cooling centers.
This is the region’s most intense heat event of the month and could push cooling systems to their limits. Rolling blackouts are not expected but remain a risk if energy demand spikes.
Another round of extreme heat may return by early next week, forecasters say. Heat advisories remain in effect through Friday evening.
