Trenton, N.J. – Mercer County residents—and those just across the river in Lower Bucks and Eastern Montgomery—should brace for oppressive heat Thursday as temperatures and humidity combine to push the heat index to 97°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, warning of conditions that could cause heat-related illnesses, especially in vulnerable populations. The advisory covers Trenton, Doylestown, Norristown, and surrounding communities.

Outdoor workers, older adults, and children are most at risk. Officials urge residents to stay indoors in air conditioning, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors who may not have access to cooling. If outside, wear loose, light-colored clothing and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.

This is the first heat advisory of the season for much of the region, as early summer temperatures climb across the Mid-Atlantic. Local cooling centers may open Thursday; residents should check municipal websites for availability.

The heat threat may persist into the weekend. Additional advisories could follow if conditions worsen.
