Trenton, NJ – Temperatures will drop into the 20s late Monday night, creating a high risk of crop damage and plant loss across New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania before sunrise Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Freeze Watch is in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday morning for a large portion of the region, including Trenton, Camden, Atlantic City, Allentown, and Reading. Subfreezing temperatures are expected to develop after midnight and persist through the early morning hours.

The coldest conditions are likely in inland areas such as Sussex, Warren, Berks, and Lehigh counties, where temperatures could fall well into the 20s. Urban corridors including Philadelphia suburbs, Mercer County, and parts of central New Jersey may see slightly higher readings but still below freezing long enough to damage vegetation. Shore areas like Atlantic and Cape May counties will be somewhat moderated but remain at risk.

Sensitive plants, early crops, and budding trees face the greatest threat. Residents should cover or bring in plants and take precautions to protect vulnerable vegetation. While widespread travel impacts are not expected, frost may form on exposed surfaces by daybreak Tuesday.

Temperatures will recover after sunrise Tuesday, but additional alerts may be issued if colder conditions develop or expand across the region.
