New Brunswick, N.J. – Streets across Middlesex, Morris, and Somerset counties remain flooded early Tuesday, with local officials closing several key roadways as water levels linger after overnight storms.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a flood warning remains in effect until 7:15 a.m., affecting a wide swath of northern New Jersey. Between three and six inches of rain fell during Monday night’s storms, sending Green Brook and nearby waterways over their banks. Emergency crews in towns including New Brunswick, Edison, Somerville, and Perth Amboy have reported numerous roads closed and slow-moving, standing water in many neighborhoods.

Travelers should avoid flooded areas and heed roadblocks. The greatest risks remain on low-lying streets and near rivers or creeks, especially in East Brunswick, Sayreville, Carteret, Madison, and North Brunswick, where water will take hours to recede. Local officials urge drivers to turn around if they see water on the road and to report flooding only when safe.

No additional rain is expected this morning, but the impact may persist through the morning commute as drainage systems catch up. More advisories could be issued if new problems emerge.
