Philadelphia, PA – An elevated risk for fire spread is in effect across New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and northeastern Maryland on Saturday due to dry and windy conditions. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly issued a Special Weather Statement warning residents to take precautions as any fires that ignite could spread rapidly.
According to the National Weather Service, relative humidity values will drop to between 20% and 30% throughout the region. These dry conditions will be accompanied by west to northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The combination of low humidity and strong winds increases the potential for fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control.
Authorities strongly discourage outdoor burning and urge residents to properly extinguish or dispose of any potential ignition sources, including cigarette butts. Fire officials also recommend checking with local forestry and fire management agencies for any burn restrictions in place.
The heightened fire risk will persist throughout the day before conditions improve. Residents are advised to stay informed and exercise caution to prevent any accidental fires from igniting. Emergency officials stress that awareness and preventive measures are key to reducing fire hazards in dry and windy conditions.
