Morristown, NJ – Drivers across parts of northern New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania are facing slippery road conditions Tuesday morning as mixed winter precipitation continues to move through the region ahead of the holiday travel period.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 4 p.m. Tuesday for Sussex, Warren, and Morris counties in New Jersey, as well as Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania. Snow totals of 1 to 4 inches are expected, along with a light glaze of ice, especially at elevations above 1,200 feet.

Additional advisories are in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday for Lehigh and Northampton counties, including Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, where 1 to 3 inches of snow and light icing are possible. The greatest impacts are expected in higher elevation areas above 1,000 feet.

The hazardous conditions have already affected the Tuesday morning commute, with untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses becoming slick. While snowfall rates are not expected to be intense, the combination of snow and ice can quickly lead to dangerous driving conditions, particularly on secondary and rural roadways.

Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. Even light icing can significantly reduce traction, especially during early morning hours when road temperatures remain cold.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve later this afternoon as precipitation tapers off, but lingering slick spots may persist in shaded and higher-elevation areas.

Drivers are encouraged to check the latest road conditions before traveling. Updates are available by dialing 511 for state-specific traffic and roadway information.
