Philadelphia, PA – Widespread rainfall is expected across the region tonight as a strong cold front moves through Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. Forecasters say around a half inch of rain will fall overnight, with locally higher amounts possible north and west of I-95.

The rain is expected to arrive late Tuesday evening, spreading eastward toward the coast overnight into Wednesday morning. Skies will clear gradually by Wednesday afternoon as the front moves offshore, bringing noticeably cooler and breezier conditions.

According to the weather service, temperatures that reached the low 80s Tuesday will tumble to the low 60s by Thursday under sunny skies. Lows Thursday night could dip into the 30s and 40s across the region, raising the potential for the season’s first frost or freeze, especially in rural and interior areas.

Motorists should use caution during the morning commute Wednesday, as periods of rain could reduce visibility and create slick roads. Dry and seasonably cool weather is expected to return by the weekend.
