Philadelphia, PA – Residents across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware should brace for a sharp drop in temperatures tonight as the region experiences its coldest night of the fall season so far.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, after a seasonably cool afternoon with highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s, temperatures will tumble into the upper 20s and low 30s overnight. When combined with gusty winds, wind chill values are forecast to fall into the upper teens and low 20s by early Tuesday morning.
The coldest air is expected across the Lehigh Valley, northwest New Jersey, and interior parts of Pennsylvania, where wind chills could briefly dip into the teens. Coastal areas, including Cape May and Atlantic City, are likely to remain slightly milder but will still feel temperatures in the 20s.
Forecasters say skies will remain mostly clear, allowing for rapid cooling overnight. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing, as frost and freeze conditions are likely across much of the area.
Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine but continued chilly conditions, with highs expected to remain in the 40s before a gradual warm-up midweek.
