Mount Holly, NJ – Coastal residents across New Jersey and Delaware are being urged to prepare for dangerous conditions as a strong coastal storm is forecast to impact the region from Sunday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly.

The agency has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for all Atlantic coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware, including Delaware Bay. Officials warn that moderate to major flooding is increasingly likely, with potential for widespread roadway flooding, property inundation, and possible evacuations.

According to NWS forecasts issued early Friday, wind gusts up to 59 mph are expected along coastal zones from Cape May to Long Branch, with inland areas like Philadelphia and Trenton seeing gusts near 40 mph. Offshore, waves may reach 15 to 20 feet, creating hazardous marine conditions through Monday.

Rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches are projected for much of coastal New Jersey and Delaware, with slightly lower totals inland. Heavy rain combined with strong onshore winds could lead to localized flash flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas.

Forecasters warn of potential power outages, beach erosion, and coastal road closures due to the storm’s intensity. Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, avoid flooded roadways, and secure outdoor property before conditions worsen Sunday morning.
