Trenton, New Jersey – Saturday — New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport announced heightened security measures across the state following military strikes in Iran, Israel, and other parts of the Middle East.
In a formal statement, Davenport said Gov. Mikie Sherrill has been in communication with her office, Acting State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan Hengemuhle, and the Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness as officials coordinate with federal partners, county prosecutors, and law enforcement leaders statewide.
While there are no specific or credible threats to New Jersey at this time, Davenport said law enforcement agencies will increase patrols in sensitive areas — particularly at houses of worship — out of what she described as “an abundance of caution.” Some security measures will be visible to the public, while others may not.
The attorney general also urged residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to local authorities without delay. State officials emphasized continued outreach to community and religious leaders as tensions abroad evolve.
In addition, Davenport encouraged residents to report incidents of bias or hate to local law enforcement or through the New Jersey Bias Incident Reporting portal at bias.njcivilrights.gov or by calling 800-277-BIAS.
Officials said they will continue to assess the situation and implement additional precautions if necessary.
Further updates are expected as state and federal agencies monitor developments overseas.
