Trenton, NJ – Freezing rain is creating hazardous travel conditions across parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania this morning. Drivers are urged to use caution as icy roads and sidewalks persist through 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for areas including Sussex, Warren, and Morris counties in New Jersey, and Carbon, Monroe, Lehigh, and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania. Up to one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is expected, making untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks particularly slippery.

Residents planning to travel early Saturday should delay non-essential trips and allow extra time for any necessary travel. The most dangerous conditions are expected on untreated surfaces, where even a small amount of ice can cause significant challenges.

The advisory, which began Friday evening, is part of a system bringing freezing rain and icy precipitation to the region. The greatest risks are for areas with temperatures near or below freezing overnight.

Temperatures are expected to rise gradually after 9 a.m., improving conditions later in the morning. However, caution is still advised as lingering ice may remain in shaded areas or on less-traveled routes.

Stay updated on road conditions through local traffic apps or state transportation websites. If you must travel, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready and carry an emergency kit, including a blanket, flashlight, and ice scraper.
