New York, NY – Strong rip currents, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf remain a threat for New York City and Long Island beaches through Friday evening, with advisories in effect until 8 p.m. Friday. Beachgoers and coastal residents are urged to use caution as waves build and winds pick up through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a high surf advisory and a high risk of rip currents will continue for ocean-facing beaches, while coastal flood advisories extend into Friday for communities from Brooklyn to the Hamptons. Southern Connecticut shorelines, including Bridgeport and New Haven, are also under coastal flood advisories. Gusty winds are expected to persist along the coast through early Friday, adding to the hazards.

Flood-prone areas such as Freeport, Lindenhurst, and Mastic Beach could see water over roads during high tide cycles. On Long Island’s North Shore, Stony Brook and Riverhead remain at risk of minor coastal flooding. In New Jersey, coastal flood advisories are posted from Freehold to Sandy Hook.

Residents are urged to avoid entering the surf, secure belongings near the shoreline, and prepare for potential road closures during high tide.

Warnings remain in effect through Friday, with conditions expected to improve by the weekend.
