New Hampshire Woman Feared Drowned After Falling Through Ice at Big Island Pond

Atkinson, NH – Authorities suspended the search for a woman who fell through the ice at Big Island Pond on Saturday evening.

Emergency crews responded to a 5:30 p.m. call from Chase Island Road in Atkinson after hearing someone yell for help. Responding agencies included Marine Patrol, New Hampshire Fish and Game, Atkinson Police and Fire, and multiple surrounding departments.

Officials believe the woman fell through the ice and likely drowned. Search and recovery operations remain ongoing, but they paused efforts until daylight due to safety concerns and visibility issues.

Marine Patrol has urged residents to avoid venturing onto ice without understanding its thickness or stability. According to Sgt. Nicholas Haroutunian, the search includes multiple agencies and specialized equipment to ensure a thorough investigation.

The woman’s identity remains undisclosed as officials attempt to locate her and notify her family. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Marine Patrol Sgt. Haroutunian at (603) 227-2112.
