Keene, New Hampshire – Drivers across New Hampshire are waking up to snow-covered roads Saturday as a winter weather system spreads steady snowfall across much of the state, creating hazardous travel conditions through the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Saturday morning through 5 p.m. for large portions of central and southern New Hampshire. Cheshire County is expected to receive between 4 and 6 inches of snow, while much of central and northern New Hampshire will see around 3 to 5 inches, with locally higher totals in elevated terrain.
Communities including Keene, Jaffrey, Claremont, Lebanon, Concord, Laconia, Plymouth, Milford, and Wolfeboro are seeing snow accumulate on untreated roads, making travel slow and slippery. Even though snowfall rates remain relatively light, persistent accumulation is enough to impact road conditions throughout the day, especially on secondary roads, hills, and bridges.
State and local road crews are treating major routes, but officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations. Conditions may worsen briefly during steadier snow, reducing visibility and traction.
Snow is expected to taper late Saturday afternoon as the advisory expires. While conditions should gradually improve into the evening, slick spots may linger after sunset. Motorists are encouraged to check New England 511 for the latest road conditions before traveling.
