New Hampshire Weather Alert: Sunshine is still winning the battle across southern New Hampshire, but darker skies are waiting just beyond the horizon. Warm pavement, light winds, and comfortable travel conditions today will give way to a prolonged stretch of soaking rain and occasional thunderstorms that could slow traffic and create pockets of standing water by midweek.

Manchester, New Hampshire – According to the National Weather Service, today remains sunny with a high near 87 degrees, making it one of the warmest days of the week. The pattern begins to shift Tuesday as clouds increase and scattered showers and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon. Rain chances then rise dramatically, with a 90% chance of rain Wednesday and Wednesday night, followed by an 80% chance of showers Thursday.

Drivers along Interstate 93, Interstate 293, Route 101, Everett Turnpike, and Interstate 89 should prepare for slower travel beginning Tuesday afternoon and especially on Wednesday. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall could reduce visibility, while wet pavement increases stopping distances during the busiest commute periods.

Meteorologists are now tracking a stronger weather system moving into New England that will pull deep Atlantic moisture into the region. Repeated rounds of showers could produce localized areas of poor drainage flooding where heavier rain persists. A few thunderstorms are also possible, bringing gusty winds and frequent lightning. While the severe weather threat remains limited in southern New Hampshire, residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts as conditions evolve.

Have umbrellas and rain gear ready before heading out. If you encounter water covering a roadway, turn around rather than attempting to drive through it. Travelers flying through Manchester-Boston Regional Airport should also watch for possible weather-related delays during the middle of the week.

Conditions gradually improve by Friday as temperatures rebound to around 80 degrees with only an isolated shower chance. Looking farther ahead, the Climate Prediction Center’s 6-to-10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across New England, suggesting another stretch of warm summer weather is likely after this wetter pattern exits.
