Manchester, New Hampshire – Sun breaks through the clouds this Sunday afternoon, but darker skies are waiting just beyond the horizon. A stretch of pleasant early-summer weather will give way to a wetter pattern that could affect travel and outdoor plans across southern New Hampshire by Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, much of Sunday starts on a comfortable note with temperatures climbing toward 79 degrees. While sunshine will dominate at times, meteorologists are tracking scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. Rain coverage remains limited, but brief downpours could interrupt outdoor events.

The more significant weather arrives Monday.

Latest forecasts show showers becoming increasingly likely after early afternoon as a developing system moves into New England. Rain chances rise from 40 percent during the day to 70 percent later Monday, then reach 90 percent Monday night. Conditions may deteriorate quickly for commuters and anyone heading home during the evening hours.

Drivers on Interstate 93, Interstate 293, the Everett Turnpike and Route 101 should prepare for wet pavement and reduced visibility Monday afternoon and evening. Travel speeds may slow during heavier showers, particularly around Manchester’s busiest traffic corridors.

Meteorologists continue monitoring thunderstorm potential as warmer and more humid air moves into the region. Severe weather is not specifically forecast, but isolated thunderstorms can still produce brief gusty winds, lightning and localized ponding on roads.

For now, Sunday remains the better day for outdoor activities, yard work and travel. By Monday, umbrellas may become essential across much of Hillsborough County and surrounding communities.

Conditions begin improving Tuesday. A few early showers remain possible before skies trend sunnier and temperatures reach the lower 80s. Sunshine becomes more widespread Wednesday as highs climb into the mid-80s, signaling a warmer pattern ahead.

Long-range outlooks favor above-normal temperatures across New Hampshire later next week, reinforcing a developing summer feel across the region.
