Manchester, N.H. – A relentless summer heat wave will push Manchester’s temperatures to near 97°F on Wednesday, July 30th, driving up the heat index and raising serious health concerns for travelers along I-293 and throughout southern New Hampshire.

According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Hillsborough, Rockingham, and surrounding counties until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The advisory covers communities including Manchester, Nashua, Concord, and Salem. High humidity will send the heat index soaring into the upper 90s, creating dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors for prolonged periods. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Stay indoors if possible and use air conditioning to reduce your risk of heat-related illness.

Patchy fog is possible early, but blazing sunshine will dominate the day, intensifying the heat. Drivers on I-293 and Route 3 should prepare for hot pavement and rising vehicle cabin temperatures. Utility companies are urging customers to reduce electricity usage during peak afternoon hours. Manchester-area schools and outdoor programs may adjust schedules or cancel activities to protect public health.

What’s Next:
By Thursday, a cold front will bring a chance of showers, providing some temporary relief from the oppressive heat. Friday, August 1st, could see another round of scattered storms and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Looking toward the weekend, Saturday and Sunday will deliver sunny, comfortable conditions with highs around 80°F, making it perfect for outdoor plans before another round of summer warmth builds early next week.
