MANCHESTER, N.H. – Warm fall air is about to give way to a sharp cool-down across southern New Hampshire as a strong midweek storm system moves through, bringing widespread rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, patchy fog will linger early Monday before skies clear and highs reach near 85°F — unusually warm for early October. After a mostly sunny Tuesday with highs around 81°F, rain and embedded thunderstorms are expected to develop by nightfall. The heaviest downpours are likely between late Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, with an 80% chance of precipitation.

Localized flooding could affect low-lying streets in Manchester, Concord, and Nashua, while gusts up to 20 mph may create slick driving conditions during the morning commute. By Wednesday night, cooler air settles in, dropping lows to the 30s with frost expected by early Thursday.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for a noticeable temperature swing. Sunshine and highs near 60°F return by Friday, but overnight frost risks will persist into the weekend.
