Manchester, N.H. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across New Hampshire and parts of Maine this afternoon and evening, bringing damaging winds, heavy downpours, and the potential for hail. Residents in Manchester and southern New Hampshire should prepare for rapidly changing conditions through tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, storms will strengthen after 2 p.m. Saturday, with the highest risk for severe weather between 5 and 9 p.m. Wind gusts could reach 20 mph, while localized flooding is possible where storms stall. Torrential rain may reduce visibility on major roadways, including Interstate 93 and Route 101.
Western and central Maine will also see storm activity, though the greatest impacts remain across southern New Hampshire, where evening commuters could face slick roads and patchy fog overnight. The National Weather Service warns of damaging winds as the primary hazard, though hail remains possible in stronger cells.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, secure outdoor items, and monitor local alerts. Power outages remain a possibility if strong winds topple trees and power lines.
Conditions improve by Sunday morning, with sunshine returning and no hazardous weather expected through much of the week. Additional advisories may be issued if storms redevelop later in the evening.
