Manchester, New Hampshire – A significant blast of arctic air is expected to settle over New Hampshire late this week, bringing dangerously cold temperatures and life-threatening wind chills that could persist for several days. Overnight lows are expected to drop near 9 degrees below zero in parts of the state, while daytime temperatures struggle to climb out of the single digits through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, the coldest conditions are expected from Saturday through Tuesday as a polar air mass locks in across New England. Gusty northwest winds will push wind chill values down to between 15 and 25 degrees below zero at times, particularly overnight and during the early morning hours when frostbite risk increases rapidly.

Northern New Hampshire and higher elevations, including the White Mountains and North Country, are expected to see the harshest cold, but southern cities such as Manchester, Concord, and Nashua will also feel the impact. The combination of cold temperatures and occasional snow showers could lead to icy stretches on Interstate 93, Route 16, and other secondary roads.

Emergency management officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in multiple layers, and ensure pets are brought inside. Homeowners are advised to protect exposed pipes and check heating systems, while drivers should keep winter survival kits in their vehicles.

The deep freeze is expected to hold through Tuesday, and additional wind chill advisories or warnings may be issued as the event approaches.
