North Conway, New Hampshire – Snow is already stacking up across western Maine and northern New Hampshire early Sunday, with visibility dropping below 500 feet at times and road conditions quickly deteriorating ahead of the morning drive.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 2 a.m. Monday, with total snowfall between 5 and 8 inches across southern and northern Oxford and Franklin counties in Maine, and Carroll County in New Hampshire. The heaviest bursts are expected to continue through Sunday afternoon and evening.

Travel is becoming hazardous along Route 302 through Crawford Notch, as well as secondary roads in Bethel, Rangeley, and Farmington, where plow crews are struggling to keep up with steady snowfall rates. In New Hampshire, slick conditions are developing in North Conway, Ossipee, and Wolfeboro, especially on untreated surfaces and higher elevation roads.

Drivers should expect snow-covered pavement and reduced stopping distances. Authorities urge avoiding non-essential travel, keeping emergency kits in vehicles, and checking real-time conditions through NewEngland511 before heading out.

Snow intensity will taper after midnight, but icy spots may linger into early Monday morning. Additional advisories could follow if cleanup and refreezing become concerns.
