Portsmouth, N.H. – Snow-covered highways and sudden bursts of heavier snowfall are creating hazardous travel across the Seacoast before sunrise Saturday, with visibility dropping quickly in stronger bands.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday for Coastal York County in Maine and Coastal Rockingham, Interior Rockingham and Eastern Hillsborough counties in New Hampshire. Up to an additional inch of snow is possible, bringing storm totals to 4 to 6 inches across communities including Portsmouth, Hampton, Nashua, Manchester, Biddeford and Saco.

Interstate 95 along the Maine-New Hampshire border and Route 101 west of Exeter are snow-covered in stretches, with untreated secondary roads becoming slick. Snow bands may briefly intensify, leading to rapid accumulation and visibility reductions under a half mile. Temperatures below freezing are allowing snow to stick immediately to pavement.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check newengland511.org for real-time road updates before heading out. Plow crews are active, but conditions can change quickly within minutes as bands move inland from the coast.

Snow tapers near or shortly after 7 a.m., though icy spots could linger through mid-morning. Additional advisories may be issued if heavier bands persist.
