Concord, NH – Heavy rainfall has led to dangerous conditions on the Connecticut River and its tributaries, prompting a safety warning from the New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol. Boaters and swimmers are advised to exercise extreme caution due to elevated water flows and debris in the river.

According to Great River Hydro, recreational boating is strongly discouraged near McIndoes Dam in Monroe and Wilder Dam in Lebanon. The recent weather has compromised Boater Safety Buoys, significantly increasing the risk. Officials urge avoiding boating, kayaking, or canoeing in these areas until conditions improve and the buoys are repaired.

Some affected boat landings include East Wilder Boat Launch in Lebanon, Wilson’s Landing in Hanover, Hewes Brook CT River Landing in Lyme, and Orford Boat Launch in Orford. Authorities stress the importance of safety precautions for those who choose to venture out. They recommend filing a float plan, carrying a cell phone, and wearing a life jacket. The high water flows can submerge objects, create river strainers, and cause undertows, posing risks even to experienced boat captains and swimmers.
