Hopkinton, NH – Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a serious rollover crash Monday afternoon on Interstate 89 southbound, where three people suffered significant injuries and traffic was disrupted for over an hour.
According to New Hampshire State Police, Troop D troopers responded at approximately 3:25 p.m. to reports of a rollover crash with entrapment and injuries near mile marker 9.4. At the scene, troopers discovered a 2003 Toyota Matrix on its side, entangled with a 2017 VW Golf in a wooded area separating the highway’s northbound and southbound lanes. Multiple fallen trees further complicated the rescue efforts.
State Police said three occupants of the Toyota Matrix were allegedly transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The sole occupant of the VW Golf was also allegedly taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluation. Identities of the drivers and passengers are being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
Both southbound lanes of Interstate 89 were reportedly closed for just over an hour as rescue crews worked to extricate those involved. One lane remained closed for a longer period while investigators processed the scene. Local fire departments from Hopkinton, Henniker, Concord, Weare, and Bow, as well as the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, assisted with the emergency response and lane closures.
Authorities urge anyone with information related to the crash to contact Trooper Tyler Griffin at 603-223-4381 or Tyler.L.Griffin@dos.nh.gov.
