Raymond, NH – A vehicle explosion on Route 101 westbound caused a brush fire and significant traffic disruption Wednesday evening, prompting emergency response and public safety warnings.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 5:17 p.m. when Troopers from Troop A responded to a car fire near Raymond. A 2018 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 43-year-old Robert Andrada of Londonderry, began smoking while westbound on the highway. Andrada pulled over and exited the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames and later exploded, igniting a nearby brush fire.
No injuries were reported in connection with the explosion or subsequent fire.
Authorities noted that as the fire spread, multiple motorists attempted to backtrack against traffic or use restricted access crossovers, complicating the emergency response and posing additional hazards. Officials reminded drivers to obey all traffic regulations to prevent potential injuries or property damage during such emergencies.
The blaze prompted the temporary closure of all westbound lanes of Route 101 for about one hour while emergency crews from the Raymond Police Department, New Hampshire Fish and Game, and local fire departments extinguished the flames.
The New Hampshire State Police are asking anyone with further information about the incident to contact Trooper Dylon Sandstrom at Dylon.K.Sandstrom@dos.nh.gov.
