Hampton Beach, N.H. – A 17-year-old boy died Sunday evening after being pulled from the water at Hampton Beach, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Authorities said the incident happened at approximately 6:46 p.m., when Marine Patrol received a report of a possible drowning. The teenager, who was swimming with family members, was caught in a strong ocean current. His father attempted to rescue him but also became distressed.

According to State Police, lifeguards had already ended their shifts for the day but were quickly called back to the scene. They entered the water, brought both the teen and his father to shore, and began lifesaving efforts. The victims were transported to Exeter Hospital, where the 17-year-old was pronounced dead. His father was treated and is listed in stable condition.

The teenager’s name is being withheld due to his age. Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and Marine Patrol was assisted at the scene by Hampton Beach lifeguards, Hampton police and fire departments, and North Hampton Fire & Rescue.

Officials are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Marine Patrol Sgt. Nicholas Haroutunian at Nicholas.M.Haroutunian@dos.nh.gov or by phone at (603) 227-2112.
