Manchester, NH – Triple-digit heat is locking in across southern New Hampshire Wednesday, threatening power grids, outdoor events, and vulnerable residents in Manchester, Concord, and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 PM Wednesday for central and southern counties, including Hillsborough, Merrimack, Sullivan, and Cheshire. Temperatures will reach 101°F, with a heat index up to 107°F, the highest so far this summer.

Residents are urged to stay indoors, use air conditioning if available, and check on elderly neighbors. Extended exposure or strenuous activity outdoors can lead to heat-related illness, especially in children and seniors. Interior car temps will become deadly within minutes.

City officials in Manchester and Nashua have opened cooling centers, while public safety crews monitor high-traffic areas like I-293 and Route 101 for heat exhaustion risks. School summer programs and outdoor laborers are being advised to reschedule or seek shade during peak hours.

Conditions begin to ease slightly by Wednesday night, but the heat lingers. Thursday brings scattered showers, which could help lower temps into the low 70s.
