Gray, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place for a wide stretch of central and northern New Hampshire tonight as a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected to create slippery and potentially hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters anticipate up to one inch of snow, sleet accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch, and around one-tenth of an inch of ice across the region. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing throughout the event, increasing the risk of icy roads and walkways.
The advisory covers a large area, including Sullivan, Southern Carroll, Southern Grafton, Northern Carroll, Northern Grafton, and Southern Coos counties. Communities such as Berlin, Littleton, Plymouth, North Conway, Claremont, Lancaster, Lebanon, Ossipee, Jackson, Waterville Valley, Rumney, and Moultonborough are among those likely to experience rapidly changing conditions after sunset.
According to the NWS, even light snowfall and minor icing can accumulate quickly on untreated roads, especially in higher elevations and shaded surfaces. Travel may become hazardous tonight, and residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary trips until conditions improve early Sunday.
A brief period of sleet and freezing rain may worsen the evening commute before precipitation tapers off overnight. Stairs, sidewalks, and driveways may become slick and pose a fall risk.
