Candia, NH – A tractor-trailer crossed opposing traffic lanes and came to a stop off Route 101 westbound in Candia Saturday morning, prompting a multi-agency response and temporary lane closure.

According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when a westbound International Harvester tractor-trailer, driven by David Young of Sandown, veered to avoid a tow truck in the breakdown lane. The maneuver initiated a chain of events that led to a side-swipe collision with a pickup truck and caused the tractor-trailer to cross into eastbound lanes before stopping on the shoulder.

The pickup truck, a Ram 2500 driven by Nicholas Picard of Berwick, Maine, was towing a landscaping trailer and had attempted to pass the tractor-trailer by moving into the right lane. As it neared the tow truck, the vehicle swerved left, reportedly sideswiping the tractor-trailer and pushing it toward the center median.

No injuries were reported in the crash, and no other vehicles were involved. Authorities closed the right lane of Route 101 eastbound for about three hours to clear the scene.

Responding agencies included Troop A and Troop G of the New Hampshire State Police, Candia police and fire departments, Raymond and Auburn fire departments, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Trooper Alison J. Baumbach at 603-223-4381 or via email at Alison.J.Baumbach@dos.nh.gov.
