Piermont, NH – An investigation is underway after a man died in a boating accident at Lake Tarleton in Piermont, NH, on Friday morning.
According to reports it began at 9:28 a.m. Friday, when the Marine Patrol unit of the New Hampshire State Police was notified of a reported drowning at Lake Tarleton. New Hampshire State Police report, two men were fishing on the lake when their canoe capsized, sending both men into the water. Although both men had personal flotation devices in the canoe, neither had been wearing one at the time of the incident.
While attempting to remain afloat and recover their gear, one passenger noticed that the other was facedown in the water. Nearby witnesses responded by boat to assist. Despite their efforts to perform life-saving measures, the man was unresponsive and could not be revived.
The victim was later identified as Michael A. Johnson, 58, of Bedford, New Hampshire.
