Manchester, N.H. – Temperatures across eastern Hillsborough and interior Rockingham counties are set to soar, with heat index values climbing to 95 degrees Tuesday, sending the region into a summer heat advisory.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, the heat advisory covers communities from Nashua and Manchester to Plaistow, Exeter, and Derry, and runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Officials warn that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat-related illnesses, especially for those without air conditioning or working outdoors.
Manchester and Nashua will see the brunt of the heat by midday, with neighborhoods in Pelham, Salem, Chester, and Newton also facing hazardous conditions. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, avoid strenuous activities, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in cars. Cooling centers may open in city libraries and community centers; check local updates.
Drivers along major routes like I-93, Route 3, and Route 101 should be alert for overheated vehicles and slowdowns as road crews monitor conditions. Tuesday’s spike is just the beginning: “Heat will continue to build Wednesday and Thursday, with even higher heat index values and greater coverage of hot temperatures,” warns NWS.
The heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with further updates likely as this summer weather pattern intensifies.
