Manchester, N.H. – Residents across southern New Hampshire are facing dangerous heat today, with temperatures expected to push into the upper 90s and heat index values nearing 95°F through 8 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns that the combination of high heat and humidity could trigger heat-related illnesses for those outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, the heat advisory covers much of south central, southwest, and western Maine as well as central and southern New Hampshire, including Manchester, Nashua, Concord, and surrounding communities. The advisory will expire Tuesday evening as a cooler air mass begins to move in.
Health officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and drink plenty of water. Overnight lows will offer some relief, dipping into the upper 60s before rising again into the mid-90s on Wednesday.
By Thursday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to break the heat, with temperatures falling back into the 80s by Friday. Additional advisories could be issued if storms produce strong winds or heavy rain.
