Manchester, N.H. – Drivers across southern New Hampshire should prepare for a wet commute Tuesday as showers and thunderstorms develop after midday. Heavy downpours could quickly reduce visibility along I-93 and local routes, slowing traffic during the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, patchy morning fog will give way to partly sunny skies before storms build by 2 p.m. Gusty winds and localized downpours are possible, with rainfall totals under a quarter-inch for most, but higher amounts in thunderstorms.

Manchester, Concord, and Nashua will see the most significant impacts as scattered storms cross Hillsborough and Merrimack counties. Commuters should allow extra time and avoid flooded low-lying areas. Calmer conditions are expected by early Wednesday, though more showers will return later in the day.

Wednesday brings cooler air, with highs near 71 degrees and persistent cloud cover. The unsettled stretch continues into Thursday and Friday, with daily chances of showers keeping the ground damp and travel conditions less than ideal.

The first official week of fall in New Hampshire won’t deliver a crisp cooldown yet, but early signs of cooler nights suggest a shift toward more seasonable weather by next week. Residents should keep umbrellas handy and monitor updates, as more advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
