Epping, NH – Drivers across the New Hampshire Seacoast experienced heightened enforcement last week as a Thanksgiving Eve saturation patrol led to nine arrests and 79 citations, according to New Hampshire State Police.
The operation began at noon Wednesday, Nov. 26, and continued into the early morning hours Thursday, Nov. 27. Troopers assigned to Troop A focused on major corridors in Rockingham County and Route 16 (the Spaulding Turnpike), stopping 224 vehicles as part of a high-visibility DUI initiative supported by the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to State Police, nine people were arrested on various charges, most involving impaired driving. Those arrested include a 64-year-old Somersworth man who allegedly drove under the influence and committed a lane control violation, and a 40-year-old Exeter woman accused of driving under the influence of liquor.
Troopers also arrested a 29-year-old North Chelmsford, MA man on aggravated DUI charges, alleging he drove 30 mph or more over the speed limit while impaired. Another Somersworth man, 67, was arrested on DUI and an outstanding warrant. A Hampton man, 60, was arrested as an alleged habitual offender.
Other arrests included a Litchfield teen, 16, for alleged reckless operation; a Dover man, 29, accused of alcohol ignition interlock circumvention; a Philadelphia man, 31, arrested on charges including driving after suspension; and a Biddeford, ME woman, 23, accused of reckless operation.
State Police say motorists can expect similar enforcement efforts throughout the holiday season. Officials urge residents to make safe choices before driving and to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911 and providing vehicle and location details.
