Londonderry, NH – A Windham man was seriously injured Thursday night after a fiery single-vehicle crash on Interstate 93 in Londonderry.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. Thursday at mile marker 16.8 on I-93 southbound. Troopers from the Troop B barracks responded to reports of a vehicle that had struck a tree and caught fire.
When troopers arrived, bystanders were attempting to free the driver from a black Mazda 3 that had become fully engulfed in flames. Assisted by an off-duty Manchester Police Department officer, troopers removed the driver — identified as 27-year-old Georgios Nicolopoulos of Windham — and moved him to safety.
Nicolopoulos was initially taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries before being flown to a Boston hospital via medical helicopter for advanced care.
Members of the Londonderry Fire Department also responded to the scene. Authorities say the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Trooper Shane Mason at Shane.P.Mason@DOS.NH.GOV.
